The future of healthcare is being proactive. We’ve discussed this before. John Hopkins Bloomberg Public School of Health recently noted that primary care physicians feel that they aren’t the best health care professionals to provide weight related counseling to their patients. Who did they think was more qualified?
Physicians stated that nutritionists and dietitians were more qualified to treat patients with weight related issues.
Great, so primary care physicians think that nutritionists should treat patients with weight related issues. Duh. I guess that’s cool. What’s the big deal?
We’re starting to see a clear shift in the conversation of healthcare. Nutritional professionals are getting involved in a larger portion of the discussion of how to approach the overweight epidemic in the country. Relying on professionals who have preventative health information shows a shift in the healthcare system. A system based on reaction is evolving into a system that is proactive. This will not only be more beneficial towards the U.S. population as a whole, but also more cost effective. Nutritionists and fitness trainers will soon start to obtain more of the spotlight on solving the healthcare problem. Their insights will bring a lot of solutions to the table. But this isn’t the only arena – which is what I’m really excited about.
There are three main areas, which I’ll be covering in depth over the next few weeks, where healthcare is really shifting.
Media Outlets – Too often to we have ideas about what it is to be “fit” that are misplaced and wrong. Along with information that really isn’t relevant to the general population anyway. We need information that is relevant to the everyday person – the guy who works for 10 hours a day. The mom who has a family to take care of. Not celebrities, fitness icons, or athletes whose professions require that they look good or are in shape. Here are some media outlets that are getting the message out for us normal folks:
Gym Model Disruption – The more and more we think about a the typical gym, I’d imagine that you think of that guy from the planet fitness commercial talking about he picks up heavy stuff and puts them down. Within the fitness industry, gyms understand that they aren’t just a place to workout. The gym is looking more and more like a community. Once more mainstream gyms realize this idea, we’ll start to see an exponential change in the industry’s approach to servicing their customers. Here are a few examples of gyms that I’ll be covering in the next couple of weeks that are embracing these ideologies:
Tech – There are a numerous amount of apps and gadgets to cover. A lot of them you can use for free which is awesome. Some aren’t even apps – which is even cooler! We’ll probably dive into actual reviews of the products as opposed to writing an article about all of them.
